DESCRIPTION

We were called in to provide a long term solution to water leakages on two overhead concrete water tanks and one underground tank. One of the elevated tanks was in use by the Client, our selection of materials and work programme had to take into account that the Client required the use of at least one of the tanks. We had to select a structural waterproofing product that would keep re-calls to a minimum and also eliminate cost of re-tiling to reduce cost on Client, i.e. product had to be certified for potable drinking water.

STRUCTURAL WATERPROOFING SOLUTIONS

Surface preparation was carried out for the elevated tanks prior to waterproofing works. Preparation is to ensure a well prepared surface that is free of laitance and with adequate suction for waterproof coating. Attention was given to the tank edges (construction of coves) and pipe intrusions before final water-proofing was done.

Three days air curing was observed before filling the tanks with water. As at date there are no leakages observed on the elevated tanks. Works at the underground is still on-going with the removal of wall and floor tiles and cement backing. We would usually prefer to coat the concrete directly but due to the removal of existing cement plaster it would provide an uneven surface. Hence we recommended that the Client provide a solid plastered wall so that we would get a flat working surface to treat.
